Best Red Carpet Looks from MTV’s Video Music Awards 2024

MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2024 took center stage at New York’s UBS Arena. After being rescheduled to avoid conflicting with the U.S. presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. The event drew all eyes on Wednesday night, as celebrities graced the red carpet in bold and memorable ensembles.

Best Red Carpet Looks

Honoring 40 Years of Iconic Style

Since Madonna’s daring wedding dress performance at the very first VMAs in 1984, the award show has built a legacy of eccentric fashion. This year’s attendees embraced that tradition, with some paying tribute to the Queen of Pop herself. Addison Rae and Anitta both donned modern bridal-inspired outfits. With Anitta’s Dolce & Gabbana attire complete with a veil and stiletto heels. Sabrina Carpenter, nominated for Artist of the Year. Arrived in a vintage Bob Mackie gown, famously worn by Madonna at the 1991 Oscars.

Fashion Throwbacks and Nostalgic Inspirations

The night was filled with fashion throwbacks, as stars embraced iconic looks from the past. Halsey’s Versace gown, previously worn by Elizabeth Hurley in 1996. And GloRilla’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes-inspired hairstyle added to the evening’s nostalgic vibe. Taylor Swift also wowed in a Dior ensemble reminiscent of Cher Horowitz’s yellow plaid outfit from the ‘90s film “Clueless.” Meanwhile, Lil Nas X turned heads with a helmeted outfit, drawing playful comparisons to the Pink Ranger from the same era.

Embracing Dark Elegance and Goth-Glam

This year’s red carpet, unusually black in color, saw numerous stars opting for dark, gothic-inspired looks. Suki Waterhouse and Margaret Qualley stunned in feathered black gowns by Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel, respectively. Benson Boone made a statement in a lacy black top paired with embellished shoes. While Megan Thee Stallion, the night’s host, wowed in a little black dress with a corseted bodice and a unique flared skirt design.

Gothic Glamour Takes Center Stage

Chappell Roan, nominated for Best New Artist, fully embraced goth-glam, appearing in a striking floor-length Y/Project gown. Complete with a cross pendant and long nails protruding from fingerless chainmail gloves.
